You guys! How is it already this far into November? We have a Christmas countdown already going in our house and we are so close to being in the 30's! My kids are freaking out just a little bit. I realized awhile ago about how fast this time of year flies by, and I have to mentally step back and not look forward to anything and just enjoy the now. When I put a day or event ahead and that's all I can think about, I realize I miss those special moments in between and lose them in all the hectic chaos that this season brings. That's why I like decorating my house early for the holidays. I just get it out of my way, and then I can sit back and enjoy those little moments...enjoy the "now".

This week, I'm joining the lovely Carrie from Lovely, Etc and some other amazing blogging friends to share some early Christmas inspiration with the Very Merry Christmas Home Tours. You can see all of their tours at the bottom of my post :) But for now, I'm sharing my dining room Christmas tour! It's a little weird sharing this room as one of my first Christmas tours. It's usually one of the last rooms decorated for the holidays. There's just so much that goes into it, but this year, everything just fell into place perfectly. I would say effortlessly...but there was a little :)

I've been wanting to use my candlestick collection in here for the past few seasons, but I felt like it only worked well with Christmas. I also took down my gallery wall. I wanted to add my collection of cathedral windows, but it just looked too busy with all the candlesticks. Then I remembered my window frames. I put them up so this angle represented a Christmas tree...can you see it?

I went completely neutral in here with pops of frosted greenery. I then added these cute plush plaid pillows I got from Home Goods to the end chairs.

My dining table has multiple uses, and only used like 1% of the time as an actual table to eat on. That being said, place settings don't last long on here. They look pretty for a minute, then give me anxiety with the clutter...then add on all the papers, crayons, books, paint, playdoh, etc...you get my drift. One of these days when I host a super fancy dinner party, maybe I'll have these out for awhile :)

To get this look, I used a charger from Kirklands, and placed a white plate on top I received as a hand-me-down from my mother in-law. I then placed a folded napkin on top of the plate, folded the top under the charger, and kept the bottom free. Placed a bowl on top of that, and finished it off with these cute place-tag holders I got from Hobby Lobby. For the names, I just cut out small pieces of linen and scrolled on names. I love the tattered look to them.

As for the tablescape....this is sadly only a fraction of all my candlesticks. You can't tell, but I did hold back on putting them all out :) Let's just say, I'll be ready for when the power goes out! These are all from Hobby Lobby. I then added a little garland through them to fill in the gaps and add some texture and frosted greenery.

As for my buffet, I kept it pretty light in color, and used my mainstays. I added a few pine cones in top of the tiered tray. I kept my faux aged terracotta pots on here...plus,  I think they look great as little pots for tabletop Christmas trees which you'll see in my other room tours.

After my photo shoot from last years Christmas decorations for American Farmhouse Style magazine, I have a multitude of extra little Christmas trees, so I added a couple on here for a festive look. (PS. That issue is out right now! Go check it out :) )

To soften up the window frames, I swagged some frosted garland. I kept it interesting by just doing two and not all three. The bottom frames are from Home Goods. They were actually picture frames, and I just took out all the glass. The top one is from Kirklands.

I think this years decor in here is one of my faves so far. I didn't have to buy anything, just used what I had on hand (besides the pillows which I bought for fall). That's pretty much the best feeling when you realize you didn't have to spend much!

I can't wait to share with you the rest of my rooms! I had so much fun decorating this year..even though I drug my feet doing most of it...Once again, I'm glad that it's over! Now I get to enjoy the little moments with my kiddos.

As promised, here are the links to all the other tours going on this week with the Very Merry Christmas Home Tours. Give them all some love :)

It pains me to even write that title. Can someone tell me how in the heck did summer go by so fast? Am I the only one trying to hold on to every ounce of summer or feels like they are betraying summer for putting out fall decor? I'm just not ready...but the weather sure is! It's a high of 60 degrees here today. This was our low 4 days ago. When it's ready to be fall, I guess it's ready to be fall! :) Can't stop it.

This tour is going to be the first of a few fall tours I'll be sharing with you this year. I have a video tour of this room and my process on behind decorating it at the bottom of the post, so be sure to check it out :) This tour is a part of many tours going on this week hosted by Marty from a Stroll Thru Life. If you are making your way through the tours, and have come from Sarah's blog Life on Virginia Street, welcome! If you just landed here as one of my normal readers, be sure to check out all the other tours for some amazing fall inspiration. I have all the links to them at the bottom of this post.

So, it's obvious from my beginning paragraph that I am so not ready for fall decor. It really pained me to bring out my pumpkins. But, in a small way, it was welcomed. My decor in most of my rooms have been the same since spring with small changes for summer. It was ready to be freshened up a bit.

For the theme in my dining room decor this fall, I went with neutrals and greens. I feel like that was my theme for the past year with everything :) ....But! I actually did add some color in my living room and my front living room. So, I did branch out a bit in those rooms. #shocker

In my dining room, I started off with decorating my tablescape. Pumpkins, of course, are a mainstay in here for fall. I used lots of heights starting with the large lantern and going down to the pumpkins on the plant stands and then lastly to the faux greens in the aged terracotta pots. (was that a long sentence or what?! ha! :) )

I'm not one to really set the table for anything. I feel like having it like this everyday just makes it feel cluttered. We use this table for everything....work, homework, crafts, coloring, eating (obviously). But, I do like the way it looks when it's all set! It's just not really functional for us :) I bet if I had a formal dining room dedicated to using it just on special occasions, I would be all about the place settings!

For the place setting, I used a charger I found from Kirklands, added my go-to plate that was passed down to me from my mother-in-law. I then sandwiched a napkin in between the plate and a square/round bowl. In the bowl I added a little pumpkin with a pine cone and farmhouse beads. If I were to host Thanksgiving dinner, maybe I would use the place settings. How about you, are a you place settings type person? Or more casual? For me? I'm all for easy and using paper plates! haha.

My favorite way to set the table is in a tiered style, higher on top and then going down in the middle. I'm definitely more of a symmetrical decorator :) Here's a wider view of the whole tablescape.

For the buffet, I did change this up a bit. I moved my larger breadboard off and placed this cute sign from Kirklands.

The opposite wall houses more of my mugs. I kept the theme going by draping some greenery over the wire cup rack. And one of these days I'm going to change out that chandelier for the beaded one I bought a year ago. Yeah. You read that right. I forget about it, then I have a tour and remember how I need to change it. One would think I would have changed it that same day...but alas, my husband thinks it looks like a taxi driver's beaded seat cover (insert eye roll here). So, he's obviously not thrilled on helping me install it.  Maybe...just maybe for Christmas I'll have it in here :)

To finish up, here's a full view of this room. I just love this table, it seats 8/9 people easily and even extends to add two more! And to think at one time (years ago), I wanted to get rid of it or paint it! I'm so glad I came to my senses.

I hope you all like going back in time as much as I do. Yesterday, I shared with you my front living room transformations over the years. Today, I'll be sharing my dining room. Truthfully, I totally forgot about half the things I did in this room until going through these pictures. I had some weird ideas for a minute with this space...probably laughable ;) At least for me! Enjoy!

Here's how it is today:

Jute rug: Amazon    Farmhouse Chairs: Amazon

2009
And this is how it started. Like brand new, just moved in, and no curtains. We got this table as a gift from my mother in law. It is huge! It came with 8 chairs big enough to sit two butts on.
Not knowing what to do with the french doors in terms of privacy, I hung curtains to see how it would look. And obviously....I liked it, since I still have curtains up there today!
2010
You may think this is decorated for fall with all the colors. Nope, no. This was my style. I was all about the Tuscan feel. I went back and forth for months if I should do Venetian plaster in here. Luckily, I ended on "back" and didn't do it! I couldn't imagine. I hear it's a pain to try to get rid of.
2011
This was my first step to get out of the Tuscan look. I made these knock-off ballard mirrors. They were so easy to do and definitely changed the dynamic of the space.

At this point, I wanted white e.v.e.r.y. thing. Like. For real. I wanted to paint this table and chairs oh so bad but my husband would not stand for it. So, I tried all that I could to brighten it up without painting it. I made this weird table top out of planks to give me my white table look without the actual white table.
I then realized how funny it looked, and added legs made from plywood. I actually loved this look so much. It definitely was like just putting a dress on a table or something, but instead of fabric, it was wood. So, it  was odd, but I loved it at the time!
2012
I quickly realized what a pain it was to clean up spills and everything underneath the planks. I then had this crazy idea to put those planks to good use on my wall. I seriously just took the table apart and started nailing them up on the wall. I ended up loving the look. This is far before "shiplap" was a mainstream thing. This was called "planking" back in the day.

I decided at one point to chunk up my knock-off mirrors and hang them on the wall. I was trying to go for a garden-y feel in here.

I then got bored with the space. Luckily that doesn't happen as much anymore. I took the mirrors down and switched them up with this diy wood sunburst mirror. I also made this table shorter....did you notice? It looks so funny to me now! This was like the only time ever that we have taken out the leaf. And if you can believe it, there's actually two leaves! We never use the 2nd one...it would extend the table into the door :)

The next transition was making this farmhouse bench. I was definitely starting to slowly turn this space into a farmhouse dining room. I realized at this point that it was the chairs that I hated in here. It was just too much brown! This bench opened up the space and gave the balancing white I had wanted so bad before.

2013
Loving the white against the brown with the bench, I decided it was time to toss the big brown chairs in favor of some white slipcovered ones from Ikea.
2014
I'm pretty sure at some point in 2014 my farmhouse bench broke :( I made a smaller one to fit the table with or without the leaves in.

2015
After having two kids, I realized the need for double duty furniture. I found this storage bench for like $30 and snagged it. I placed it under the table. It was awesome because it offered a soft cushion for butts, storage for linens, and good place for my kids to walk around on when doing crafts.
2016
My big addition in 2016 came in the form of more double duty furniture, my large buffet in the back.

From there on, everything stayed pretty much the same, besides seasonal changes.

That bench was used a lot!....and then it got gross. I said crafts, and you better believe crayons, play-doh and paint were all over that thing. I swore to myself to never buy non-slipcovered furniture again.

2017
To go with the farmhouse theme I was slowly creating in here, I switched out the bench with these metal and wood chairs

I then slowly updated my other chairs with full length slipcover ones. First, I just did the head chairs, then a few years later I would do all the others.

2018
Then came the big change (at least to me). The wood sunburst mirror was in here for years!...since 2012! I decided to change it up and put this lavender gallery wall in it's place.

I have always loved wood beams. I really want them in every room in my house, but know that's totally overboard. (ps. did any of you ever see that one House Hunters that they looked at a house that literally had a different style of wood beams in every.single.room of the house? It was a bit much :) ).  These faux beams weren't planned to stay in here forever. I actually didn't like them at all when I first put them in. I wanted to get an idea of what bulkier beams might feel like. Well, since I didn't like these much, the bulkier version was out. Months later, I have yet to take them down, and now they have grown on me :)

2019
A smaller change happened at the beginning of this year with my chandelier. I actually bought a brand new one to put in here about a year ago...and well, still haven't changed it out :) I tried to "farmhouse" this one up a bit by adding beads and taking off the shades. I also added full length slipcovers to the back 3 chairs.

 Current
And here it is again today! The buffet decor now stays the same for the most part. The tablescape and pillows get changed per season. And did you notice?....I still have the same table! I never did get around to painting it white, and now I'm so glad I didn't. The wood completely balances the space.

I think my favorite addition to this space over the years is the planked wall. What do you think? Do you have a favorite?
