I'm not one to change my bathroom decor often, but ever since I redecorated it for Christmas I have the urge to do so. And why not, right? It's just another area to decorate and have fun with. I do have to admit though, once I took all the decor from Christmas down in here, it was in shambles for weeks...or maybe a couple of months :) It just got neglected, so having it refreshed is ...well...refreshing!

There have been just a few updates in here since I put these shelves in (tutorial). First, being the new sign on the shelf. I found this at Michaels a couple of weeks back and new it would be perfect in here.

I mean, seriously....how cute is this?! It was the perfect thing to add a little height to the shelf. I also moved some things around, and edited out a couple of things that were on here for years.
Another addition, was this little wood caddie. It is simply a 1x8 cut about 10 inches wider than my bathtub. I stained it with Dark Walnut from Minwax. That's it! Added a book for reading and candles for relaxing.
The shelves used to be my favorite part of my bathroom, but now it has tough competition with this side. I shared a little bit of this side of the tub a few months ago when I posted the tutorial on my faux shiplap wall (tutorial)
I had originally painted a motif with a stencil in between the molding years ago in order to break up the beige on my wall. It was busy and I always hated it. I wanted to add some shiplap for awhile just to give it a pop and some added texture. I never did simply because of laziness. I didn't want to have to re-cut some molding to fit around the shiplap. I know, I know. Dumb. But it totally happens more than not!

So, instead of having to cut all the extra wood, I used a marker :) You can see the full tutorial about how to do this on this post (click here). It was super quick and made a great impact in just minutes!
Another great addition that I'll share more about in an upcoming post is this pendant light. I've been wanting some sort of hanging light in here for years, and found this one for a steal. I initially had it in my kitchen, but my husband wasn't a fan. Then I found a new one that I loved even more for the kitchen, and moved this in here. It fits like it belonged all along!
Isn't it great how a few small changes can help freshen up a space? I have always said it and will continue to say it...if you stop cleaning a space and pretty much ignore it for too long, it's time for a refresh! Trust me...it'll keep you wanting to keep it nice and clean...at least for a little bit :) This may just be from laziness...or the craziness of my life, but I let spaces go to the dogs too often. The minute I redecorate, I keep them looking good! It gives me motivation :)

Since I have tried all forms of shiplap, I decided to try a new one! A completely faux shiplap where no power tools are required. Intrigued?

Well, this little spot in our upstairs hallway doesn't get any love. It's the one spot that usually acts as catch all of school artwork, toys, dirty clothes, etc. I always wanted to brighten it up and make it more inviting. I had ideas about doing shiplap but the molding on the door adjacent to the wall was too close to the wall and actually somewhat crooked. So, then I decided I would do floor to ceiling board and batten. Even bought the boards and everything. That was like 3 months ago :) On a whim, I decided to try something new last night. And I completely love it! It was so quick, easy, and cheap....practically free. Plus, no power tools required which is the best!

And here's the gloomy before. Of course, this was at night but it really didn't get much prettier or brighter than this.
So, how did I do this faux shiplap?
First, I painted the wall Swiss Coffee by Behr.
I then took my level and measured down from the ceiling and marked every 6 inches. I did this on about 4 areas of the wall. I then took a pencil and connected the horizontal lines, making sure they were level. I've done this type of shiplap twice now and wouldn't skip this step even though you can. It just makes sure the next step stays accurate.

Next, I took a black marker, or a sharpie (fine point). Since all my sharpies are not fine point, I borrowed one of my kids markers initially for the bathroom one. Mainly because I didn't know how this would end up looking and new it would be easier to wash away than a permanent sharpie :) With the marker, I lined the level up again with the pencil drawn lines and then went over the lines with the marker. I made sure not to pick up the marker at the end or the beginning too fast since it would sometimes leave a vertical mark. Just took my time with it.

On my big wall, it found that doing horizontal sections was a lot quicker than doing whole lines by themselves.

I taped off the wall initially when I painted it white and took the lines to the tape. But, I didn't like how undone this looked. So...this is the part that does require some tools, but it's technically not apart of the shiplap :)

I took a small 1/2"x1 1/2" mdf board and secured it to the end. I feel like this finished it off much better than before. If you were to do a whole entire wall that doesn't randomly end, you wouldn't necessarily have to do this. Or, if you do a whole entire room, wouldn't need it either.

I can't get over how bright this looks! And be truthful....if I showed you this picture without you knowing how I did the shiplap, you would have no idea it was just marker!

Okay. Now for my first initial try at this. I did it in my bathroom. Above the bathtub I did a stencil a few years ago, and truthfully hated it ever since. The molding kept falling off and it was a big mess.
So, I did the same technique, and rehung the molding...

And I am in love! Just some lines, that's all it is. I've shown a few people this in person, and they had no clue until I told them. Yep. Like, had to go up and touch it to figure it out.

Now, here's my two cents. I think this looks amazing on small spaces. I'm sure it'll look great doing this to a whole room. But, if you are going to sell your house soon...I don't know :) I think it would be a big let down to buyers to find out it's just marker. Also, this is something you would have to be willing to repaint your whole entire room if you decide you don't like. Which is of course, totally doable but a big pain in the butt :) haha.

That being said. I have a big ledge loft thing in my entry way that I am totally going to do this on! Serious. It's up high so no one will ever notice that it's not. Now, only if I can get some nerves to get up on that ledge :)

I can't believe how close Christmas is! I'm trying my best to soak in all the Christmas spirit I can, but I have become overwhelming busy the past few weeks that it's so hard to do! So busy that I never did get around to sharing my Christmas entryway and a first, my Christmas bathroom! I have also decorated the playhouse into a wintery candy land which I will probably share with you next week.

Up first is my entryway.

I traded out my normal Christmas wreath for a large printed sign with some garland sagged over it. I actually had quite the hard time figuring out this space this year, that's why it's so late to be shared :) I was trying hard to add reds and greys and it just wasn't feeling right. After days of moving things around, I finally told myself, go back to what you know. Neutrals! And like a gem, it was perfect the first time. :)

I'm excited to share more of this space with you in the coming weeks, but here's a sneak peak of a view I've never really have shown. The board and batten up the wall is all new! It has made the biggest difference to my entryway. As for the garland, I just love my railing so much and hate the carpet on my stairs, so the garland usually finds itself on the bottom...showing off the railing and covering up the carpet :)

Here's the other view going towards the door. I found this awesome bucket at Hobby Lobby for the tree. It reminded me a little bit of a trash can, but once the tree was in there I didn't care.

Now for my bathroom. This is the room I chose to do fresh greenery in and oh am I ever so glad I did. Having fresh greens in a somewhat enclosed space makes for a beautiful aroma. I changed around my shelves to fit the small Christmas tree and greens. I also add this 2 second bath caddy board. Seriously took 2 seconds to make. Went into my garage, remembered I had a piece of already stained wood, hoped it would fit, took it into the bathroom, placed it on the tub. It fit. Boom and done :)

This side of my bath I don't share regularly either, but it has a small change that I will once again share with you in the coming weeks. Oh, and this orb chandelier is new! It was the perfect addition :) Most of my fresh greens in this room are tree clippings from a local Christmas tree seller. Got them for free! It's like the best...cheapest, Christmas decor ever.

Can't wait to share the playhouse with you next! But, until then. I'll be here doing some yoga, trying to relax, listening to some Christmas music, drinking hot chocolate, tangling myself up in lights...you know the drill :) Everything I can to feel that magic of Christmas before it is gone!
