Finally! I'm finally sharing my living room and my main tree all decorated for Christmas! This room has been decorated with the tree up since the week after Halloween, but I did a lot..and I mean a lot...of handmade stuff on my tree this year. So, it took some time getting that all done and ready to go! I'm so happy with how it turned out!
I think I say every year that it's my favorite way I have yet to decorate for Christmas. And this year is no different! It's probably a good thing! I wanted to go for a kind of boho vibe, but without going overboard. So, I kept with my normal Christmas decor and added some macrame and beading in the tree. It felt right considering my tribal-esque rug and Moroccan leather pouf.
I strung all of this garland. I'm not sure how many feet, but probably at least 20 feet of this stuff. It took me many many nights :) I also handmade all the macrame ornaments.
I'll (hopefully!) get some tutorials up on how I made all the macrame ornaments next week. I just loved how they turned out and ended up looking in the tree. I wasn't so sure it would work!
And the beaded garland is kind of self explanatory, but I'll make a post on it also with links to everything I used :)
I was going to leave the tree without the ball ornaments until my husband asked if I was really not going to put any on (insert hand palm here). So, I felt obligated to do so. He said it wasn't a Christmas tree without them. ha! So, I did a mad hard search for ones that would work in the tree. I mean, what color goes with natural wood and macrame string?? Really? I bought about 4 tubs of different color bulbs until I finally found some white/pearl ones I liked. It came with these rust color ones too that I wasn't going to use. Then I put one up...and yeah. Loved it. It gives the tree a little more depth with all the white. ...Speaking about all the white. This is the tree I flocked! It turned out more beautiful than I imagined it would, and I'm sooooo sad I didn't do it years ago. You can see the tutorial on how to flock a tree of our own here :)
Now for my mantel. How awesome is this vintage looking wood world map?
I got it from DecorSteals. The size is massive! It's technical name is repurposed wooden spool world map. I love it here for Christmas because I kind of image Santa's sleigh flying across the world. Dumb, I know :) It's my kid at heart!
I flanked it with other vintage-y looking pieces like my faux aged terracotta pots, some candlesticks I got from Hobby Lobby, chippy corbels (also from DecorSteals), and vintage books. I then kept my birch stick strung across my mantel, swagged some frosted greens and hung up the stockings.
As for the other side of my living room, I changed out all my pillows to white. I wanted a snowy white wonderland :) I did keep some textures going with the macrame and the jute on the pillows.
In the little toy corner (yes, there is a huuuuge mess of toys hidden behind this couch), I brought out my traditional elk. I strung some beads on one of them to bring in the beads from the Christmas trees. Plus, it totally works as a scarf :) I added lots of frosted greens and a tree to finish the look off. This countdown advent calendar clock is a Christmas tradition ever since I made it a few years ago. (Tutorial here)
Last year, I went a little overboard on the Christmas trees....and ended up loving it. I love flanking my main trees with little ones. It goes back to what I say about layering...the more the better! :)
Layering carried on throughout this whole room, heck my whole house! I used lots of frosted greenery swagged along tabletops. And of course, lots of cozy blankets and pillows!
I never thought I would love a rug as much as I did my other one that was in here last year. But, I'm here to say, this one is a close second.
