Spring has sprung and we are finally get warmer weather over here! Kind of :) High in the 50s, I'll take it over snow any day! My dining room hardly changes through the season, except for Christmas, but I have done a few spring updates in here to share :)

I obviously like Amazon ;)

You know when you have found something you truly like, it's super hard to change it up. This is true for my tablescape. The faux greenery from Ikea is superb; I can't get enough of these eucalyptus stems! I decided to add just another dynamic by adding these candle pillars from Hobby Lobby.

I also have a new addition to my buffet. First off is the wreath on my sunburst mirror. I love adding a wreath onto it during Christmas, and thought it would be fun to do a spring wreath also.

I also updated my 3-tier tray and got a new one! I loved the other one, but found this one from Hobby Lobby and just fell in love.

This side of the buffet hasn't changed much...one of those, if it's not broke, then why fix it type things again :)

This spring, most of my added decor has been with greenery. This faux fiddle leaf fig has added an extra element of it to my dining room. This corner doesn't get much love, so this was the perfect place for it!

My dining room has seen it's fair mix of chairs. When we first got the table, it came with 8 massively huge wood chairs with leather seats.

(My dining room 9 years ago)
I actually didn't mind the chairs, I just wanted to freshen up the look years back and put them in the basement to take up space....cuz that's what I do :) It's where I put things that will never see the light of day again. I replaced them with some white slip covered chairs from Ikea. I love the contrast of the white and the dark wood from the table. I love how comfortable they are, how cheap they are, how cheap the slipcovers are, and how my kids can make a huge spaghetti-pile-like-mess on them...literally...and they still clean up great.

(from Summer tour 2016)
But.....I wanted something new. I wanted something a little more casual/elegant. So, I found the slipcovers counterparts at Ikea and put them on the head chairs. These long slipcovers changed the game in here! I just love how they freshened up the space again. The other slipcovers are $9 each. That's like a steal, especially if one gets ruined by play doh or other mysterious stains you would rather not have your guests see. These new ones are a little pricier at $29 each. But, I would say well worth it. When I get around to it, I might opt for doing all 5 chairs in the long covers, but until my kids can learn to keep their food...or play doh...on the table or in their mouth (not the latter on this one ;)) and not on the chairs, the $9 covers are the choice for me.

I do feel like this upped my dining room game. I feel somewhat of an adult with these chairs now. I know. That's weird, but totally true. And yes, now my table does have 3 different style of chairs on it. :) And I don't mind at all. I love how it looks!

Now that I've talked all about my new covers, I should mention what chairs they are. They are the Henriksdal chair from Ikea and are $69 with the short slipcover, or just $60 sans slipcover.

What are you favorite go to chairs? For me, anything that offers style and can clean up great!

Happy spring! I'm excited to share with you all my spring home tour today! Today's tour is apart of 30 other home tours that have been happening throughout the week hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life! If you are new here, dropping by from Hymns and Verses, or just don't know my story, here you go! We have lived in our house for almost 9 years now. It was new when we purchased it, but lacked the true character I love in older houses. I set on a journey to try to add some character into the house. I have come to love it's own unique characteristics though, and am now in a struggle trying to incorporate them into my own. Truthfully, I just want to add board and batten to almost every wall...that's my true love. But I know this house is beautiful without that and I am trying to hold back! haha.

My goal this year is to add some more character along our stairs and possibly finish the board and batten throughout my living room. So, come the summer tour, things may look a little different. Or maybe not :) Until then, let's get on with the tour.

This year for spring, I kept it really neutral with lots of pops of green. It's still highs in the 30s and 40s around here, so layering is a must with lots and lots of blankets. Of course, layering is a must in the summer too...so I guess the temperature doesn't really matter :)

This is our front room which also serves as a play room and guest room. The barn doors add a little bit of privacy.

This couch pulls out to a bed and has a ton of storage in it which holds all the linens, pillows and mattress toppers.

If you open this bench, it looks like a toy bomb went off. It's completely chuck full of toys :)  I love versatile furniture pieces!

I went super neutral on my faux fireplace mantel. I have changed this up about 5 times since Christmas and finally settled for this simple look.

On the bench is one of my favorite new items, a bread bowl. This thing is huge! It's a great addition to this room...although I had a heck of a time trying to decorate it :)

Next up is my living room. Once again, super neutral in here with little pops of green...p.s. I may have a small obsession with stripes :)

This shiplap clock is a new addition along with the ruffle shams. I know I have way too many pillows on my couch, but I like to dress it up like a bed...cuz, why not? :)

This is where I have plans on continuing the board and batten...mainly to break up this huge wall. I'm half tempted to take the board and batten up between those two windows, what do you think? Too much?

I put this firewood on here last fall and have no plans on moving it. I figure now that it's time to do some fires outdoors, I can just pull from here...and of course, quickly restock.

I played around with this mantel a bit also and fell in love with this look. This wreath has quickly become my favorite project this year so far. Super simple and cheap to make! You can find the tutorial here.

Next stop is my master bedroom. Pillows and ruffles are the story here. I'm all about comfort :)...and ruffles, obviously.

I updated my pillows a bit and change out my lamps since my last tour. I was worried that putting these lamps in here would make too many hard edges and square shapes...probably does, but I love them. Plus, it's always good to switch things up a bit.

And there you have it! Next week, I'll share with you my spring dining room. Until then, hopefully you'll enjoy the spring where you are! This year, I'm just praying for no more snow. We had a crazy warm winter, and my tulips started coming up in January. Nothing like, January showers bring February flowers to be killed by March snowstorms :)

Next up for the tours is Far Above Rubies! And be sure to check out all the other inspiration and tours that went on this week!

I am a baker at heart, but realized that if I wanted to survive..and have my kids survive or at least get any sort of nutrition, I needed to figure out the whole cooking thing. I've been doing well for the past few years. I've found some recipes that I just absolutely love and know my kids do also. So, I thought that it was about time to actually start writing them down. I seriously have forgotten about so many awesome recipes that we loved because I didn't write them down. Do you all just go through the phases where you find a recipe that is a hit and you make it like once a week for two months, you have it practically memorized, and then get so sick of it you don't want it any more? We have so many of those...those are the ones I wish I had written down. I know we liked them once, I bet we would like them again!

I remember my mom's recipe box. I dig through that like crazy when I get a chance. Recipes cut out from newspapers are the best! Or handwritten ones past down from my grandma. I definitely have those nostalgic dishes that remind me so much of my childhood. A few I could live without. For instance, the frito pie...you know, with fritos and topped with chili? We had that so much in my childhood it has left a bad taste in my mouth. And the best that I still give my mom crap for is white rice with sugar for breakfast. LOL I have no words! As a mom I still don't understand this :)

I thought it would be fun to make a recipe box that I can hand down to one of my kids with all of our most loved recipes. I did think about building one, but then I found this at Michaels for like $3 and thought that saved time and money and effort :) I'm all for that!

So, instead, I just decorated it a little bit to give it a vintage or farmhouse look. Here's what I did to achieve this look.
Step 1: Stain the outside with a walnut stain.

Step 2: Paint the inside a vintage yellow.

Step 3: Get petroleum jelly and rub it on the corners, edges, and slightly in the middle and top.

Step 4: Paint the outside white.

Step 5: Once the white paint is dried, take sandpaper and rub where you would like to see it distressed a little, remembering where the petroleum jelly is.

Step 6: Add some vintage touches. I chose to use a label holder I found from Hobby Lobby. I just hot glued this on there.

I also added a handle to the top to make it easier to open. You can glue this on if you don't have a huge heavy one, or screw it on with small screws.

I found some super cute recipe boxes online, but making something that fits your style is even better :) This goes with my decor perfectly! I know it's all distressed now, I can only image what it will look like 20 years from now. Hopefully it survives that long! That's my plan!

Here's a look at it opened. I love how that yellow pops! I got these recipe cards from Hobby Lobby also. I had plans to design my own, which I still might, but time got in the way of it :) Also, an FYI on the handle you choose, make sure it's not too top heavy or it might just flip the box over when it's opened :)

Any favorite recipes that remind you of your childhood? Bet you can't beat the rice and sugar :) Seriously though, it's super yummy! Ha!
