When you do as many DIY projects as me, you get a lot of scrap wood pieces. And if you are also like me, you can't ever seem to throw those pieces away. You never know when that 5 inch piece of molding or wood is going to come to good use, right? Ha! Serious though, my scrap pile is so big it's a little ridiculous. Every once in awhile I try to go through it and use it up, and I actually do pull pieces from it often to use on other projects. Today, I'm going to share with you a cute little spring wreath using nothing but scrap would pieces from my pile. 

 I love how this turned out so much that I'll probably be doing another one which I'll update this post with to give you all more ideas. 

So, here are my scrap would pieces. I used quite a mixture or wood or mdf in all different sizes. The backing that I used was also a scrap piece from one of my furniture builds, it's 1/16" piece of plywood. If you don't have this available, you can buy it at a building supply store for about $5 for a 4'x4' piece.

 The width of all the wood pieces together was about 19". That was around the size I wanted for my wreath, so I made sure that all the pieces were at least that length also. 

I painted the wood and mdf using DecoArt's Americana Acrylic Paint in Royal Navy, Berry Cobble, and Vintage Pink. I originally had left the middle mdf piece white, but then decided to use Snow White in the acrylic paint on it also. This took about two coats for full coverage.

 Next, I used the wood glue and squirted it all over the plywood. 

 I then added the wood and mdf on top of the plywood, securing them down with weights. I kept these like this for a couple of hours to make sure the wood glue adhered properly. 

 Next, I used a piece of string and a pen to outline the outer circle. I did this by tying a knot in the middle of the string and securing it in the very center of the pieces with a thumbtack. I then stood the pen up and stretched the string out as far as it could go, and made a circle. To get the length of the string initially, I just pulled it out to the shortest edge. It ended up being about 9".

 I then took a bowl (an easier method) to trace the inner circle. Since I wanted to make this circle off centered, I just eyed where I wanted it. If you want it centered, you would want to measure to make sure it was equidistant from all edges of the previous circle.

 To make the jigsawing process easier, I drilled a hole into the middle circle that's big enough to fit the jigsaw blade.

 Now the fun part :) I put on my protective gear, and use the jigsaw to cut out the outer circle.

 Next, I cut out the center circle starting in the hole that was drilled earlier. 

 I sanded all the edges.

 Then painted the edges using the Snow White.

 I added tied jute onto the back for it to hang. I secured the knots with a staple gun.

 To finish it off, I hot glued flowers onto the bottom left along with a "hello" chipboard sign onto the top right that I had used last spring on a different wreath.

 The "hello" was painted using DecoArt Americana Decor Matte Metallics in Aged Bronze.

 And there's the finished piece!

It has found it's place on my mantel for now, but it will be heading to my door when the weather gets a little bit better.

I just love being able to make things like this at little to no cost; it's the best!

Even though I kept my Christmas/winter decor out a lot longer than usual this year, I also decorated for spring a lot earlier than usual. I couldn't wait to decorate my front living room with my new mantel. When I got the mantel, it was pretty close to Christmas so I didn't get much of a chance to play around with normal decor. And of course, since it's in my front room, that room has seen some spring updates too! 

The entry to this room has double sliding barn doors that's a must have for when guests use this space as a guest room (the sofa pulls out to a queen bed!)

 I realized last year that my sunburst mirror above the new mantel was just too much wood in one place, so I moved it over above the couch. I think it offers a good balance. I was iffy about putting it here since the porthole mirror was also on this wall above the storage cabinet, but I think it works :) 

I went pretty neutral with the pillows, of course :) The white ones came with the couch and actually fit under the bed when it's pulled out. It has a crazy amount of storage in it. The crisscross type jute pillows came from Target last year and the beige ticking pillows were a Home Goods find.

 I am loving this room more and more everyday especially with this new beauty! I am so glad I didn't paint it. It took all I had in me to change my vision in here and have a big wood mantel be the centerpiece, but I think that's what makes it work and makes me love it! 

 For the fireplace I decided to break up the white shiplap and place old book pages in the middle. I put an old painted tree stump in the middle as a small side table for the chairs. A perfect place to hang out and read! 

As for the mantel decor, I went away from my symmetry. It was hard...it was very hard. Ha! But, I wanted to break out of my norm and try something new. This is what happens when you find pieces that you love and want to work together, but you only have one of each....and it only makes sense to have one of each :) Goodbye symmetry! The saying is from Hobby Lobby, the scale and window frame is from Kirklands. 

 These chairs in here are still my favorite find....besides the mantel. They are at least the cheapest ones! They are true Scandinavian chairs that I bought off a yard sale site for $5 each. Yeah! Just a little reupholstering and some paint went a long way.  

 For my bench, I kept it cozy in here with a blanket since it was still technically below 10 degrees outside when I decorated in here. I put up a new light for my gallery wall to give it a more modern farmhouse feel. It doesn't work and isn't connected, but you wouldn't have known if I didn't tell you ;)

I placed some lambs ear stems to the dough bowl along with faux lavender. I'm never sure about how to decorate this thing, but I figure you can't go wrong with lots of greenery :)

 I think this room is just full of my favorite things, including this vintage inspired wire hamper. I like to add extra blankets (goodness knows I have enough), and pillows (also way overboard on those) to it no matter what season. This sweet Flower Market pillow case is new and is from the etsy store Living With Amanda.

 Here's a view of this angle that isn't shown too often. I'm in the process of making another one of these blanket ladders for my bedroom. When you have as many blankets as I do, you need the extra storage! :)

When do you start decorating for spring? And what does you spring decor typically look like? Mine is obviously just greens and greens and greens!...and maybe lavender sneaking in there. I know spring to some are eggs and bunnies. I don't tend to go that way, maybe I'll add some decals on the windows for the kids, but that's about it :)....oh wait. Correction. I did buy one small 3" wood and white bunny the other day...I'm well on my way now ... haha :)

My bedroom was oddly the last room to get de-christmassed (Yes, I made that word up and somehow probably spelled it wrong anyway haha), yet the first room to get Spring decor. I've been waiting to share it with you because I was waiting on this new bedspread!

 I was so excited to get this on the bed and try it out. I've been eying these beautiful flowing ruffles for months now and they were always sold out in a king size. Then one day, I looked and they were in stock! So, I bought two. Yes. I know. Long story, but one is going back. 

I have recently gotten a lot of questions about all the sources on my bed and it's super hard to cover them all because they are all from different places. So, I'll be sharing the sources for those along with my spring bedroom with you all today.

 I like to keep white on my bed year round because nothing is better than waking up to the sun shining feeling like I'm on a white fluffy cloud. I realized this feeling years ago and have never gone back since. Does it get dirty? Somewhat. I do have a dog that sleeps with us and two kids that usually end up in our bed, but the main pillows here are just for decor...even though they do get jumped on daily. Our nightly pillows are usually tucked underneath all of these when I make the bed so you can't see them. My normal duvet and comforter that is underneath this bedspread is easy to clean. And this bedspread is new, so super white anyway, but when it's not in use making the bed pretty, I fold it up at the end of the bed out of the way.

 Here's a good look at all of it's flowing gloriousness. Yes, I know. I'm a little obsessed :) Would you believe this bedspread and two pillow shams in king were under $100? I know! It's from Lush Decor, and the two places I got it from (I know, I know..two..haha) anyway. Amazon and Target. (I'll have all the links at the bottom of the post to everything else too).

 As for the rest of the bedding. This greyish taupe coverlet was actually a present I got from my friend for my birthday. Amazing friend, right? She got it from Home Goods. I have yet to find it online except on ebay if you want to go that direction. The brand is Inup Home Fine Linens. Sometimes Inup Home items pop up on Amazon, so you can check that too every once in awhile :)

 I switch out my small throw pillow in here often, obviously if you look at the pictures you can tell they aren't the same in all of these :) haha. The more textured one is from Hobby Lobby. The Claude Monet saying is from Living With Amanda. It's the perfect spring accent!...even though I don't have a single none-dead living flower in my house currently :)

The diamond ruffle pillows are from a set from Lush Decor also. You can get them on Amazon too. The other standard ruffle pillows behind those...I know, I know..so many ruffles! Those are from Crane and Canopy.  The euro ruffle shams are from Amazon. 

Here's a really good look at the flowing ruffles of the bedspread. I really wish I could keep it this way, but I need the storage in my bench for all my extra linens and things.

Which do you like better? Bench? No bench?

Now besides my bedding since that's all been covered, here's another view of my faux mantel and fireplace. I updated this with some eucalyptus leaves and candles. I also updated the wood in the middle with some green moss.

Pretty much everything on this tray is from Hobby Lobby. Is it cliche to put a tray on the bed? Yes. I know. But, doesn't it just add that little extra touch? I actually never did this in all my years of blogging, and I finally did this year. I think I'm a fan...it's something more to decorate!

For my nightstands, I kept it pretty much the same as usual. That crooked lamp there (ha!) is from Target. The nightstand is an Ikea hack from a few years ago (tutorial). I decided to line some garland along my headboard since I loved it so much during Christmas. This is just a spring one from Hobby Lobby. Since my headboard is so short, I added the gallery wall above it to give this area some visual height...especially needed because of my vaulted ceilings. 

I accented the room with pops of greens. Besides the garland, the other greens are from Ikea. That is my go to place for most of my faux greenery in my house. And they have the best faux eucalyptus stems :) 

Every season I just hate taking down all the decor....but then when I put up the new season's decor, it just makes me so happy again. Let me know if you have any questions on anything else in the room I failed to mention.

The light fixtures in my house aren't bad. They could definitely be worse. I actually don't mind them too much. I've only switched one fixture because we needed a fan. I bought a beaded chandelier to put in my dining room, but decided that I might want to have it in my front room. Mainly because I didn't think the current one in my dining room is half bad. I did want to update it and give a new look though.  

This was a super simple project. It took just a couple of minutes, and made me happy enough with my current chandelier to keep it in place....well, for the time being anyway :) 

First step was to take off the shades.  I then made sure that every light was a flame tipped candle light to give it a more authentic look.  

 Next, I strung some beads along a jute rope. I used these beads in 3/4 inch from Amazon. The size of the whole thing once finished was about 60"; 12" for each section. 

 I then looped it around the chandelier. I tied the ends together and trimmed the rope so you couldn't see it anymore. I tried the best that I could that each little 'loop' was the same height. 

 And that's it! I didn't do this, but you could go a step further and paint the chandelier to give it an even more drastic change. 

I love simple projects like this that make you happy with what you have without having to go and buy something new :) ....even though I already did, ha! But that's now going in my front room as I mentioned above. Can't wait to get it in there!

I have a spot in my house that changes constantly. Or at least the wall does. I can't ever figure out what to put on this wall in my entry beneath my stairs. Either it's too big and I can't open that bench, or it's too small for the wall. So, yeah. It's ever changing. I decided to try something new for Spring. Wait....what's spring you say? Oh, it's the thing that happens after all this horrid snow and below 0 temps :) haha. I know. Putting this up is jinxing myself. And I totally did. I put this up one day, and the next it snowed 10 inches. Now I'm going to push my luck and decorate the rest of house in the coming days. Bring on the three feet of snow! 

Anyway. Back to my entryway...

I added some new additions in here. First thing being a stick. Yep. I actually just put it here for a second since it was an empty wall to lean on. And...I loved it. So, I tucked it behind the basket to incorporate it. Random stick...check! haha. Next, I found this "This is us" sign and couldn't let it go. It's one of those pieces that is almost too big for the wall since I can barely open the bench with the pillows on it. So far though...it hasn't fallen. *knock on wood* I decided to spring this piece up by adding some green garland to it. On to the cathedral window I made last year. I just love this piece, but can't find a living spot for it. I actually had it in my 'spring' box and didn't know where to put it. So, I tried it here. Usually wouldn't do something like this since it feels off. But I think with the gradual 'steps' if you will from the smaller stick, to the sign and then up to the window I think it works. Maybe I'm wrong. But for now, it's staying! 

Here's the view looking at the door. I never know which way to decorate this bench. The pillows only face one way. I love walking by this area during the day with the pillows looking at me. But, I also know it's more inviting coming in to the face of the pillows. What do you think? 

As for the pillows. Even though I rarely have flowers in my house, I just fell in love with this Flower Market pillow. I paired it with some neutral stripes and texture with the other two pillows.

Every time I look at the stairs in these pictures I want to rip off the carpet and paint them white! I would have to add a runner down the middle for my littles, but I totally think this might be my next big project! What do you think? White or the color of my floors? Those are my options. ...or leave it. I guess that's an option also...and definitely the option my husband would pick. You know...the whole leave things be and don't ever ever ever change a thing. Yeah. haha. 

What area do you decorate for spring first? I guess the bigger question...when? I just got so sick of my winter decor...even though I loved my flocked trees. I figured 3 months of that is enough. I needed to keep it "magical". The magic gets lost when you have it around for half the year! haha. Plus, the whole 10 inches of snow thing is bugging me. I sure live in the wrong place! I need 80 degree temps! :)
